Mykolaiv, a neighboring port city, saw a drone strike damage three civilian-flagged vessels. Two Ukrainians on board were killed, as stated by regional prosecutors. Meanwhile, in the Zaporizhzhia region to the southeast, two fatalities and five injuries were reported after a Russian attack, per President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Drones Targeting Black Sea Vessels

Russian vessels in the Black Sea were hit by multiple drone strikes, with Ukrainian drone forces’ leader Robert Brovdi confirming damage to nine cargo ships, a tanker, a gas transport ship, and a tugboat. The attacks aim to neutralize the fleet and hinder the movement of oil, fuel, and cargo shipments, he explained.

“The fleet hunt continues,” Brovdi stated in a Telegram post. “We are targeting ships to disrupt the flow of resources used to bypass sanctions.” He added that no hull breaches were observed, emphasizing the focus on disabling vessels rather than creating oil spills.

Brovdi noted that since July 6, 159 Russian vessels had been attacked in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, though these figures couldn’t be independently confirmed.

Impact on Infrastructure and Military

Kharkiv in the northeast experienced three injuries from Russian shelling, while Sumy region faced damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure after 15 glide bombs were launched. One person was injured in the process.

A Ukrainian oil and gas company, Naftogaz, reported that operations at a gas production facility in Kharkiv were halted due to a drone strike. The extent of the damage remains unclear.

Strategic Airbase Attack

Zelenskyy announced on X that Ukraine had destroyed a strategic Tu-95 bomber stationed at Russia’s Engels airbase, located approximately 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The aircraft was reportedly used for missile strikes against Ukrainian territory.
