Persija Jakarta’s Revitalization Strategy Under Shin Tae-yong

Persija Jakarta Sees Regeneration Plan Under – Persija Jakarta is preparing for the 2026/2027 season with a renewed emphasis on rebuilding its team. The club’s U-20 squad recently claimed the Elite Pro Academy title, signaling the inclusion of promising young players into the senior ranks. However, the transition remains challenging, as the Macan Kemayoran side continues to depend on seasoned national team veterans to maintain stability during this change.

Blending Youth and Experience

The appointment of Shin Tae-yong as head coach is seen as a catalyst for this transformation. His tenure is anticipated to accelerate the integration of emerging talents with established stars, ensuring the squad remains competitive across the extended campaign. Among those expected to play a pivotal role is 24-year-old forward Witan Sulaeman, who has previously collaborated with Shin in the national team setup.

“I’m excited about Shin Tae-yong’s arrival at Persija,” Witan stated during a meet-and-greet event at Jakarta Fair Kemayoran on July 1, 2026. “His experience should help the younger players adapt more effectively.”

Despite prior familiarity with Shin, Witan noted that the club’s environment differs from the national team’s. “The national team only comes together for tournaments, but here we’ll have continuous training and matches throughout the season,” he explained. “I hope this will allow us to challenge for the league title this year.”

Rayhan Hannan’s Commitment

Another key figure in Persija’s revitalization is 21-year-old midfielder Rayhan Hannan. His standout performances last season—netting eight goals and providing seven assists—led to a contract extension for three additional years. For Rayhan, the decision to stay is deeply personal.

“Persija and Jakarta have always been my home,” he said. “I’m a local, and I hope we can bring the championship back next season.”

Meanwhile, defender Fabio Azka Irawan, a member of the U-20 squad that won the Elite Pro Academy, is poised to make his mark in the first team. Witan believes the influx of young players will deepen the squad’s strength, with veterans ready to mentor the next generation.

With Shin Tae-yong’s leadership, a pipeline of academy graduates, and the support of experienced players like Witan, Persija aims to reclaim its position as a dominant force in Liga 1. The club’s ambitions are further amplified by the upcoming 500th anniversary of Jakarta in June 2027.
