Jokowi Expresses Confidence in PSI’s 2029 Parliamentary Ambitions

Jokowi Confident PSI Will Win Seats – TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – During a regional coordination meeting held in Tulang Bawang, Lampung on June 26, 2026, former President Joko Widodo emphasized that the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) holds a realistic opportunity to gain parliamentary representation in the 2029 legislative elections.

Call for Unified Efforts

Jokowi urged all levels of PSI officials—from the central executive board to local branches—to become the driving force behind the party’s growth ahead of the next general election. He stressed that collaboration across the political hierarchy is essential to surpass Indonesia’s 4 percent parliamentary threshold.

“If we unite from the national level down to the district and village tiers, I believe PSI will meet the parliamentary threshold in 2029,” Jokowi stated.

Grassroots Network as Key Strength

Jokowi cited PSI’s robust organizational framework, emphasizing the party’s established presence at the village level in Tulang Bawang. He argued that a strong grassroots network is critical for electoral success.

“He stressed that a well-organized grassroots network is vital. A political machine operating in every village, he argued, signifies a powerful organizational foundation,” Jokowi added.

Praising Leadership and Community Engagement

He commended PSI chairman Kaesang Pangarep and local leaders for organizing the coordination meeting and fortifying the party’s grassroots connections. Jokowi also encouraged members to deepen ties with local communities through everyday actions like attending funerals, visiting sick residents, and participating in wedding celebrations.

“Actions like these will build a positive reputation for PSI,” he said.

Historical Context and Future Goals

PSI fell short of Indonesia’s 4% parliamentary threshold in the 2019 and 2024 legislative elections, securing no representation in the national legislative body. The party now seeks to achieve parliamentary entry for the first time in 2029.
