Indonesia Aims to More Than Double Digital Tax Revenue to Rp24 Trillion
Indonesia Seeking to Double Digital Tax Revenue – Jakarta, Tempo.CO – The Indonesian Directorate General of Taxes has set a goal to boost digital tax revenue from Rp16 trillion to Rp24 trillion each year. This initiative follows the rollout of the Article 22 Income Tax (PPh 22) collection via marketplace platforms.
“We hope to at least double [the tax revenue],” stated Bimo Wijayanto, the Tax DG, after a press conference held at the Directorate General of Taxes headquarters in South Jakarta on July 1, 2026.
According to Bimo, the digital trade sector’s tax contributions over the past five years averaged between Rp8 trillion and Rp12 trillion annually. The government believes that expanding PPh 22 collection through marketplaces will enhance taxpayer adherence and ultimately increase state revenue.
The target projection incorporates compliance test outcomes, enhancements to the tax system, and feedback from business stakeholders, particularly small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and marketplace operators. Beyond revenue growth, the updated mechanism is expected to improve the accuracy of tax data via the Coretax system.
Coretax System Upgrades Address Technical Challenges
The Indonesian government has resolved previous issues with the Coretax system, including delays in case management. These problems were fixed during a three-day maintenance period from June 26 to June 28, 2026, restoring full functionality. Bimo emphasized ongoing improvements, including internal development of the Coretax algorithm to expedite updates and tailor them more effectively.
Efforts also focus on simplifying the Coretax user interface to enhance usability.
