Former Indonesian Deputy Labor Minister Jailed – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has sent former Deputy Manpower Minister Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, known as Noel, to Sukamiskin Prison in Bandung to begin his prison term for a corruption case involving workplace safety certifications. The transfer occurred on Wednesday, June 24, as part of the execution of a court ruling.

Conviction in K3 Corruption Scheme

Noel was one of 11 individuals convicted in a corruption scheme tied to the issuance of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) certifications at the Ministry of Manpower. Mungki Hadipratikto, head of the KPK’s Asset Tracking, Evidence Management, and Execution Division, confirmed the transfer to reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“We have carried out the prison sentence executions for the 11 convicts in the K3 case at Sukamiskin Prison,” Mungki told the media, adding that Noel arrived at the facility around 11:00 AM local time.

Court Sentence and Financial Penalties

The Jakarta Corruption Court previously sentenced Noel to four years and six months in prison, following his conviction for accepting bribes and demanding payments related to K3 certification processes. The court also ordered a fine of Rp200 million (approximately US$12,000) and required Noel to repay Rp3.435 billion in restitution. Failure to meet the restitution amount could result in an additional one-year term.

“With this, Your Honor, I accept the decision,” Noel said during the court hearing on May 7, 2026, where he acknowledged receiving Rp3.36 billion in bribes and a Ducati motorcycle.

Prosecution’s Original Request

The verdict was less severe than the prosecution’s initial demand. Prosecutors had sought a five-year prison sentence, a Rp250 million fine, and restitution totaling Rp4.43 billion. Noel’s case is part of a larger KPK investigation into alleged corruption in workplace safety certification services, which included extortion and illicit payments from private companies seeking regulatory approval.
