BMKG: Light Rain Expected to Drizzle Parts of Indonesia Today

The agency’s forecaster, Medayu, provided detailed predictions for various provinces and cities throughout the archipelago.

Sumatra and Java Regions

In Sumatra, Banda Aceh is anticipated to have partly cloudy conditions. Meanwhile, light precipitation is forecast for multiple urban centers including Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Padang, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, Bengkulu, Palembang, and Bandar Lampung.

Java’s weather outlook shows partly cloudy skies in Semarang and overcast conditions in Surabaya. Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta may experience dense cloud coverage. Regarding Serang specifically, Medayu noted:

“Light rain is expected to fall in the city of Serang.”

Kalimantan and Eastern Islands

Kalimantan’s forecast indicates cloudy weather in Banjarmasin, while Pontianak, Palangkaraya, and Samarinda will see light rain. The forecaster cautioned residents about potential severe weather:

“Beware of rain accompanied by thunderstorms in the city of Tanjung Selor.”

Bali and Nusa Tenggara will see Kupang remain cloudy, with Denpasar and Mataram experiencing thick cloud formations. In Sulawesi, Makassar and Kendari are predicted to be cloudy, whereas Mamuju, Palu, Gorontalo, and Manado will receive light rainfall.

Moluccas and Papua

Maluku and North Maluku regions show heavy cloud cover in Ternate, while Ambon will experience light rain. Moving toward Papua, Merauke is expected to face haze conditions, with Jayapura and Jayawijaya remaining cloudy. Medayu further explained:

“The cities of Sorong, Manokwari, and Nabire are expected to see heavy clouds.”

Tropical Cyclone 92W Warning

BMKG has issued alerts regarding tropical cyclone 92W affecting multiple maritime zones. This system is expected to influence waters west of Bengkulu extending to West Sumatra, areas from Riau through the Malacca Strait, and regions from Lampung’s western coast to South Sumatra.

Additional affected areas include the southern Indian Ocean from East Java to West Java, South Kalimantan to East Kalimantan, the southern portion of Central Kalimantan to West Kalimantan, the Maluku Sea to North Sulawesi’s northern coast, and the Gulf of Tomini to Gorontalo’s northern coastline. The cyclone may enhance rain cloud development across these zones.
