Active Police Officer Indicted in MBG Program Corruption Allegations

Broader Investigation Expands to Include New Suspect

Active Police Member Named as Suspect – The office of the Attorney General has identified a fresh suspect in the ongoing corruption probe tied to the free nutritious meal (MBG) initiative. This individual is Brigadier General Lalu Muhammad Iwan Mahardan, serving as the Secretary of the Deputy for Promotion and Cooperation at the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).

“He remains an active-duty police officer, though his role is with BGN,” stated Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, deputy director of the AGO’s Special Criminal Investigation, during a press conference on July 2, 2026.

Lalu allegedly directed witnesses YCS and RD to form a company in 2025 for distributing food trays, known as “ompreng,” to potential partners of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG). The pricing of these trays was set by him, with portions reportedly funneled into his personal accounts.

Charges against Lalu include violations of Article 12, letters a, b, and e of the Anti-Corruption Law, combined with provisions from the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP). As of now, he is held in custody at Salemba Prison, facing detention for the next twenty days.

Previously, the AGO had listed six individuals in the MBG corruption case, such as former BGN chair Dadan Hindayana and his deputies Sony Sanjaya and Lodewyk Pusung. Additional suspects include Asep Yusuf Somantri, a confidant of Sony, and two others: Andri Mulyono, commissioner of PT Yasa Artha Trimanunggal (PT YAT), a motorcycle supplier for BGN, and Glory Harimas Sihombing, chairperson of the Indonesia Food Security Review Foundation (IFSR).
