11 Killed in Civilian Plane Crash – On Sunday, a civilian aircraft crashed in the northeastern region of France near the town of Tomblaine, claiming the lives of all 11 individuals on board. The incident, reported by the French AFP news agency, prompted authorities to direct traffic away from the airport area.

Victims Included Students and Instructors

The plane was en route to a skydiving activity when it went down. According to the prefecture, the deceased comprised ten passengers—five students and five instructors—as well as the pilot. Yves Seguy, the prefect of the Meurthe-et-Moselle region, confirmed that no bystanders were among the victims.

Crash Site and Initial Findings

The aircraft, registered in Germany, landed in a grassy field close to the Nancy-Essey aerodrome’s runway. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. Seguy noted that the plane showed signs of damage prior to its vertical descent into the shopping center area.

“Give or take a few meters, and the accident could have caused collateral casualties,” Seguy stated during a press conference.

Authorities have initiated a technical inquiry, with Amaury Lacote, deputy public prosecutor in Nancy, overseeing the process. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez is traveling to the crash site to assess the situation.
