Seven KRL Trainsets Return to Service After Overhaul

Kabarsaji.com – Commuter rail operations in Greater Jakarta have returned to normal after seven KRL iE305 trainsets completed maintenance work and re-entered passenger service. The restored units are expected to strengthen capacity on the heavily used Bogor Commuter Line, where daily demand remains among the highest in the network.

The overhaul involved seven trainsets from the CLI-225 series, produced by state-owned rail manufacturer Industri Kereta Api (INKA). Work was carried out with KAI Commuter, the operator of the KRL Commuter Line, alongside technical personnel and quality-assurance teams.

Nanang Agung Rohmandiyas, INKA’s Senior Manager of Corporate Communications and Representative Office, said the entire group of trainsets was back in operation following the maintenance program.

“Alhamdulillah, all seven trainsets have resumed operation. We apologize for any inconvenience passengers experienced,”

Nanang delivered the statement in Madiun on Tuesday night, October 6, 2026. He said technical teams from INKA and KAI Commuter would remain prepared to respond quickly if minor operational issues emerge while the trains are in service.

Returning a trainset to service does not end the monitoring process. Further checks and adjustments will continue as the units operate on commuter routes, with the aim of ensuring that systems remain dependable under regular passenger loads.

Maintenance Focused on Core Train Systems

The iE305 KRL units in the CLI-225 and CLI-226 series had undergone general inspections and maintenance at facilities in Manggarai and Depok. The work covered essential components and major systems, while technical findings identified during inspection were addressed before the trains were cleared to carry passengers again.

Maintenance programs of this kind are particularly important for commuter fleets, which operate repeated trips throughout the day and serve large volumes of passengers. Inspections, repairs, testing, and follow-up fine-tuning all contribute to fleet readiness, safety, reliability, and rider comfort.

INKA and KAI Commuter will continue coordinating on the performance of the restored trainsets during active service. Technical support personnel remain stationed to assist the operation of the commuter network and to handle potential issues without unnecessary disruption.

The availability of all seven units means that daily operations on the commuter lines can again run under normal arrangements. The restoration also ends the period in which other rolling stock had to be adjusted to help maintain service levels.

Additional Capacity for the Busy Bogor Route

KAI Commuter Vice President Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda said the completion of the maintenance work improves the company’s ability to meet intense passenger demand, especially on the Bogor line.

“The return of these seven CLI-225 trainsets is expected to bolster passenger capacity along the Bogor Commuter Line, which is a route with a high customer volume,”

The significance of additional train availability is clear from the route’s passenger figures. Through the third quarter of 2026, the Bogor route recorded 119.38 million riders. That represented 43.98 percent of the 271.48 million passengers served across the Greater Jakarta commuter network over the same period.

For regular passengers, fleet readiness has a direct effect on the number of available trips and the ability of operators to maintain planned intervals between trains. A larger operational fleet gives the network more flexibility during peak commuting periods, when demand is concentrated in the morning and evening.

The Bogor line’s share of overall ridership also illustrates why the return of the overhauled trainsets matters beyond a single maintenance project. Capacity constraints or rolling-stock shortages on a major corridor can affect the wider distribution of trains across the network.

Temporary Fleet Adjustments Conclude

During the maintenance period, KAI Commuter made operational changes involving trainsets from the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line, which were temporarily assigned to the Tanjung Priok line. The adjustment was intended to support service continuity while the seven KRL units were unavailable.

Karina said shifting the circulation of train facilities during maintenance forms part of a wider effort to use existing fleet resources as effectively as possible.

“Adjusting train facility circulation during maintenance is a service optimization measure that maximizes existing fleets, ensuring the number of trips maintains proper headways during morning and evening peak hours,”

With the CLI-225 trainsets now restored, operations can return to their normal pattern across the commuter system. The change provides relief for fleet planning and supports the continued availability of services for passengers traveling on the Bogor line and other Greater Jakarta routes.

Although the trainsets have resumed operation, the joint monitoring effort will remain in place. INKA and KAI Commuter are continuing inspections and operational follow-up as the units return to regular passenger duty, focusing on safe service, stable performance, and the comfort of the millions of people who use commuter rail each day.
