Pramono Pushes for an Inclusive Culturally – On June 23, 2026, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung officially inducted 16 members into the Jakarta Academy for the 2026–2031 term at the City Hall. The group includes nine returning members and seven newcomers, reflecting a balance between continuity and fresh perspectives.

Addressing Delays with Gratitude

Despite facing several delays, Pramono expressed satisfaction that the event proceeded smoothly. “Even though the process was delayed, Alhamdulillah, we managed to hold it today,” he told reporters.

Expanding Cultural and Artistic Spaces

In his remarks, Pramono highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance cultural and artistic spaces that promote free expression. He emphasized the need for Jakarta to evolve into a city that welcomes all communities, including religious groups and artists.

“I want the space for expression to be open to everyone. One of the initiatives I am pushing for is a Jakarta that fosters inclusivity and cultural diversity,” he said.

Preserving Public Celebrations

The governor noted that Jakarta’s commitment to cultural inclusivity is evident in its support for major religious and cultural festivals that engage the public. He cited the Jakarta Christmas Carol along the Sudirman-Thamrin corridor as a new addition to the city’s cultural offerings, alongside events such as Chinese New Year, Vesak, Nyepi, and Eid al-Fitr.

“Such initiatives must be sustained through collective efforts to ensure these spaces remain accessible and meaningful,” Pramono added.

International Recognition

Pramono noted that Jakarta’s diverse cultural calendar has attracted international attention. During a recent meeting in Singapore, several officials expressed admiration for the city’s atmosphere of tolerance.

“They were amazed by how the Chinese New Year celebrations here surpass those in Singapore in scale and enthusiasm,” he remarked.

Focus on Arts Infrastructure

Looking ahead, Pramono identified improving the management of Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) as a priority. The arts hub, he argued, should be evaluated based on its role in fostering cultural identity rather than just physical infrastructure.

“The essence of Jakarta’s strength lies in its cultural spaces, which must prioritize the comfort of its residents and the preservation of artistic heritage,” he concluded.
