Search Underway for Russian Man Missing Near Bali Cliffs
Kabarsaji.com – Search and rescue personnel in Bali are continuing efforts to locate a 40-year-old Russian national believed to have gone missing near the cliff-lined coast of Tanjung Mebulu in Pecatu Village, Badung Regency.
The man, identified as G. Artem, had reportedly not communicated with a colleague since Wednesday, September 23. A report concerning his possible disappearance reached the Bali National Search and Rescue Agency early on Saturday, September 26, prompting the deployment of a field team to the area.
Seven members of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office were sent to carry out an initial sweep around the man’s last suspected location. Their search area includes the cliffs of Tanjung Mebulu, the nearby coastline, and the Karang Boma cliff area.
“Seven personnel from the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office have been deployed to the scene to conduct a search; the team will sweep the area surrounding the victim’s last known location, including the cliffs and coastline near Tanjung Mebulu and the Karang Boma cliffs,” said Bali Basarnas head I Nyoman Sidakarya.
Motorbike and Helmet Become Initial Search Leads
One of the first physical clues came from the Karang Boma Cliff vicinity, where members of the public discovered a motorbike and a helmet. The location is not far from the area where Artem was thought to have been.
Police secured the vehicle because its owner had not been identified. Search personnel are treating the discovery as an early lead while working to establish whether it is connected to the missing man.
“The motorcycle was subsequently secured by the police as its owner was unknown; the location where the motorcycle and helmet were found served as one of the initial leads in the search operation,” Sidakarya said.
At the time of the latest update on Saturday afternoon, the operation had not produced additional evidence that could confirm Artem’s whereabouts. The missing man had not yet been found.
The Bali Basarnas team is coordinating with the South Kuta Sector Police and the Pecatu Village Trustee Non-Commissioned Officer, commonly known as Babinsa. That coordination began after rescuers received the report and found that there was limited information available about the case, including no confirmed eyewitness account.
Search Focused on Cliffs and Coastline
The terrain around Pecatu presents a challenging setting for a search operation. The team is concentrating on the final known area while checking cliff zones and the coastal stretch below and around them. In places with steep edges and uneven access, determining the most relevant search sector can depend heavily on the information available at the scene.
Rescue authorities are continuing to assess leads as they emerge. Establishing a precise last-known location is particularly important when a search involves a broad coastal area, because it helps teams decide where to direct personnel and which sections require closer examination.
“The SAR team continues to coordinate with relevant agencies to determine the search area and optimize search efforts based on available information and leads,” Sidakarya said.
For now, investigators and rescuers are working from the details provided by Artem’s colleague, the suspected location near Tanjung Mebulu, and the motorbike and helmet found near Karang Boma Cliff. No further information about the missing man’s movements before contact was lost has been released.
Authorities Continue Gathering Information
The report was received by the Bali Basarnas office at 5:40 a.m. local time on Saturday through the Basarnas Command Center at the agency’s headquarters. The response involved deploying a dedicated team from Denpasar and coordinating with local security authorities in South Kuta and Pecatu.
Search operations often develop as new details are verified, and officials have indicated that the scope of this effort will continue to be adjusted using available leads. The absence of a confirmed witness or a clear account of what happened means the search remains dependent on careful coordination and the evidence found in the area.
Residents and visitors near the Tanjung Mebulu and Karang Boma cliff areas may encounter rescue activity as the operation proceeds. The focus remains on locating Artem and clarifying the circumstances of his disappearance.
Authorities have not announced a conclusion to the search. As of Saturday afternoon, seven rescue personnel remained involved in the operation, with coordination continuing among the agencies handling the case.
