Republic of Indonesia University to Focus on STEM and Health Education

Kabarsaji.com – Republic of Indonesia University to Focus its educational mission on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, according to recent announcements from government officials. President Prabowo Subianto has outlined comprehensive plans for establishing this new national institution, which aims to address Indonesia’s technological development challenges. Aris Marsudiyanto, head of the Agency for Development Control and Special Investigation (Bappisus), revealed that the university will prioritize STEM programs while also expanding into healthcare and other essential fields.

One of the main focuses is on STEM, but there will certainly be many other study programs. For example, in the field of health, medicine.

Strategic Vision for Gold Indonesia 2045

Aris Marsudiyanto presented these details during a press conference at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, July 23, 2026. He emphasized that President Prabowo recognizes the critical need to develop superior human resources capable of meeting the ambitious goals outlined for Gold Indonesia 2045. Despite Indonesia’s wealth of natural resources, the nation continues to face challenges in technological advancement and innovation. This gap between resource abundance and technological capability has motivated the government to strengthen educational frameworks within the STEM sector.

It is impossible for us to have such abundant natural resources, but low human resources. It is clear that we have all kinds of natural resources, but until now we are lagging in technology.

The strategic emphasis on STEM education represents a comprehensive approach to building Indonesia’s future capabilities. Aris Marsudiyanto expressed confidence that by promoting science and technology programs, Indonesia can eventually achieve technological self-sufficiency. However, the new university will not restrict itself exclusively to science and technology disciplines. The institution will simultaneously enhance the health sector, particularly medical education, which Aris identified as currently insufficient to meet national needs.

Health and medicine also need to be enhanced because they are currently very lacking.

Financial Framework and Leadership Appointments

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa provided additional clarity regarding the university’s financial structure during recent discussions. He indicated that funding mechanisms would likely involve coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. While Purbaya acknowledged this connection, he noted that definitive confirmation regarding whether all financial resources would originate from the state revenue and expenditure budget (APBN) remained pending.

URI (Republic of Indonesia University) will later receive part of the funding, I don’t know. We will check again. If I’m not mistaken, there is a connection with the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education.

The institutional leadership was formally established on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, when President Prabowo officially appointed Deputy Defense Minister Donny Ermawan Taufanto as the Governor of the Republic of Indonesia University. This significant ceremony took place at the State Palace in Jakarta and was accompanied by the simultaneous appointment of Yos Sunitiyoso, a distinguished business professor from the Bandung Institute of Technology, serving as vice-governor.

Following the inauguration proceedings, Donny Ermawan Taufanto characterized the university as an innovative institution specifically designed to cultivate future government officials and state-owned enterprise leaders. He highlighted that President Prabowo places exceptional importance on developing human resources for Indonesia’s upcoming generations. The university plans to establish ten campuses across the nation, with graduates receiving degrees equivalent to those from established universities, covering diverse disciplines including medicine, engineering, and numerous other specialized fields.

The President is very concerned about human resources, especially for Indonesia’s future leaders.
