Police Deny Claims of Criminalization in Febrie – The Indonesian National Police’s Corruption Eradication Task Force (Kortastipidkor) has rejected claims that Febrie Adriansyah, a former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), was unfairly targeted in his case. The allegations, raised by his legal counsel, Hotman Paris Hutapea, argue that the prosecution against Febrie represents an instance of political misuse of legal processes.

Denial of Criminalization by Task Force Head

“Oh, there isn’t,” stated Ahmad Yusuf Afandi, head of the Kortastipidkor operations, during a press briefing at the Bareskrim Polri headquarters on Monday, July 20, 2026. He clarified that the case was not an example of criminalization, emphasizing the procedural legitimacy of the investigation.

Journalists highlighted that the police had previously led the case’s investigation before passing it to the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). They sought clarification on whether the case’s handling after Hotman’s accusations indicated a shift in legal strategy. Yusuf redirected the inquiry, stating that the current responsibility now lies with AGO investigators and urging media to consult the attorney general for details.

Hotman Challenges Suspect Designation Process

Hotman Paris Hutapea had earlier criticized the police for designating Febrie as a suspect without prior summons or examination. He argued that this process violated the Indonesian Code of Criminal Procedure (KUHAP) and implied that the decision lacked due process. The lawyer also dismissed all charges against his client, asserting they were politically motivated.

“Imagine the president’s reputation suddenly under scrutiny without even a farewell,” Hotman remarked on Friday, July 18, 2026. He emphasized that Febrie’s role as Jampidsus and chair of the Task Force for Forest Area Enforcement (Satgas PKH) was central to the case. According to him, Febrie had significantly contributed to state finances during his tenure.

Contributions Highlighted by Legal Representative

Hotman claimed that under Febrie’s leadership, Satgas PKH generated over Rp300 trillion in state revenue within a year. The team also recovered Rp130 trillion in lost government assets. “Already Rp430 trillion returned, a proud achievement by the president,” he stated.
