Two U S Troops Killed in Iranian – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that two American soldiers lost their lives, with a third still unaccounted for, after an Iranian missile and drone assault targeted a military installation in Jordan. The incident occurred on Saturday, intensifying hostilities between Washington and Tehran.

U.S. Responds with Airstrikes

Following the attack, President Donald Trump authorized retaliatory strikes against Iran. The operation, which lasted from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. ET, aimed to “swiftly punish” Iranian forces and diminish their capacity to threaten commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as stated by NBC News.

“The strikes are designed to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan last night,” CENTCOM explained.

CENTCOM confirmed the attack took place at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, though the identities of the casualties have not been disclosed until families are notified. The military noted that the troops were killed during a response to the Iranian assault.

Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency claimed its forces had executed “massive drone attacks” on U.S. military locations in Kuwait, asserting the strikes would hinder regional U.S. military operations. These claims remain unverified by NBC News.

Previous Casualties in the Conflict

The latest incident raises the total number of U.S. fatalities in the ongoing standoff with Iran to 16. Earlier this year, six service members were killed in an Iranian strike on a Kuwait base, and additional deaths occurred in a refueling aircraft crash in Iraq and an attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth honored the fallen troops in a social media post, writing, “Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve.”

Jordan stated its forces had intercepted incoming Iranian projectiles, but the attack still managed to result in casualties. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also alleged that at least two U.S. fighter jets were destroyed during the strike, though this has not been confirmed independently.

The escalating series of attacks highlights the rising possibility of a wider regional conflict, as Iran and the U.S. continue their cycle of strikes after the collapse of an interim ceasefire agreement.
