Microsoft to Cut Thousands of Jobs – Microsoft announced the elimination of around 4,800 positions, with the Xbox division undergoing major restructuring. The decision aims to reduce expenses, particularly in the gaming sector, which has faced challenges in recent years.
Ashley Sharma, head of the Xbox brand, described the division’s financial state as “not healthy.” She emphasized the need for transformation, stating that businesses must adapt to industry shifts rather than resist them. Sharma, who took over in February, pledged to restore growth by 2027.
“Our business is changing because the world around it is changing,” wrote Amy Coleman, Microsoft’s executive vice president. “Companies don’t decide whether their industry evolves—they only choose whether they keep pace with it.”
The job reductions come amid a broader restructuring effort. Since acquiring Activision Blizzard in 2024 for $68.7 billion, the Xbox team has already seen multiple rounds of cuts. This latest move is expected to affect console pricing, as Microsoft aligns with competitors Sony and Nintendo to raise prices due to rising component costs linked to AI advancements.
