Weather Forecast: Light to Moderate Rain Expected Across Western Indonesia

BMKG Predicts Rainfall in Key Urban Areas on July 3, 2026

Weather Forecast – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a forecast indicating light to moderate rainfall will affect several major cities in western Indonesia on Friday, July 3, 2026. This weather pattern is linked to heightened activity in atmospheric dynamics over the region’s western areas, according to BMKG meteorologist Sastia.

“Light rain is anticipated in most regions of Sumatra, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda,” Sastia stated, as reported by ANTARA.

Sastia emphasized the possibility of severe weather events, including heavy downpours and lightning, in certain parts of Kalimantan. Residents of Banjarmasin and Tanjung Selor should prepare for strong thunderstorms throughout the day, based on the latest weather analysis data.

The formation of rain clouds is driven by a cyclonic circulation system currently active in the western Indian Ocean near West Sumatra. This system generates convergence zones along the coasts of North and West Sumatra, as well as the North Natuna Sea and South China Sea.

While rainfall is expected in most western regions, BMKG noted that some cities like Banda Aceh, Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya may still experience partly cloudy or overcast conditions. In contrast, Yogyakarta’s downstream areas could see a different weather trend, with thin smoke or haze lingering in the air.

Monitoring is ongoing for moderate rain in Nabire, while Denpasar, Kupang, Makassar, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, and Merauke are projected to have partly cloudy to overcast skies. BMKG advised the public to stay informed by regularly checking its digital platforms or social media for real-time updates.
