Malaysia Pledges US 1 Million to UNRWA – Malaysia has committed to providing $1 million in assistance to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) for a five-year period. This funding will support the agency’s efforts to aid Palestinian refugees. The contribution was announced during the UNRWA Pledging Conference in New York on June 30, 2026.

The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the pledge in a statement released from Kuala Lumpur, shared by Antara on July 1, 2026. The conference, organized annually by the United Nations General Assembly, brings together member nations to declare voluntary financial commitments for UNRWA’s programs.

Annual Disbursement and Strategic Support

The $1 million allocation will be distributed in annual installments of $200,000, beginning in 2026 and continuing through 2030. The ministry emphasized its ongoing dedication to ensuring UNRWA can carry out its mission effectively.

“Malaysia will continue to support UNRWA so that it is able to fulfill its mandate to the Palestinian people,” said the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The conference aims to secure stable and adequate resources for UNRWA to sustain its humanitarian initiatives, including education and health services for displaced communities. Such contributions are critical for maintaining the agency’s operational capacity amid evolving regional challenges.
