Hezbollah Leader Rejects US Backed Israel – TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Hezbollah’s top leader, Naim Qassem, has denounced the U.S.-facilitated framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon, labeling it ‘null and void’ and advocating for the implementation of the Iran-U.S. memorandum of understanding, as reported by DW.

Qassem’s Remarks on the Agreement

During his initial comments on the pact finalized in Washington on Friday, Qassem referred to the agreement as ‘humiliating, shameful, and a surrender of sovereignty,’ as per Anadolu’s report.

‘This agreement is rendered null and void, and the Iranian-American memorandum’s provisions must be enforced,’ Qassem stated on Saturday.

Lebanon’s Mixed Response

Qassem further dismissed any plan that tied Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon to Hezbollah’s disarmament, asserting that this condition breached ‘all red lines.’

Anadolu reported that Qassem called the proposal ‘a very dangerous plan’ that would reduce Lebanon to ‘a plaything in the hands of the Israeli enemy.’

His statements followed Lebanon and Israel’s signing of a U.S.-sponsored framework agreement in Washington, which resulted from the fifth round of talks to resolve long-standing tensions between the nations.

The accord comes after months of cross-border clashes, with Lebanese officials stating that over 4,000 people have been killed and more than 4,000 injured since March 2.

In addition, Israel has established a self-declared ‘security buffer zone’ stretching approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) into southern Lebanon, claiming it safeguards Israeli communities from Hezbollah strikes. Nonetheless, reports indicate Israeli troops have moved beyond the buffer zone and the Litani River.
